Thanks Headless for this beautiful night shot of Chicago.

On another note, have you heard of podcasting. I have talked about it on this blog before, but I am obsessed. I can't get enough of them right now. I love them.

I hook up my iPod, sync it and boom, I have content. I love it. The problem with radio is that you have to have a radio that picks up the station wherever you go if you want to listen. Not to mention that the stuff on radio is unbearably boring.

I like podcasting because I can listen to the most geeky junk and no one has to know.

Right now I am in Fayetteville. I am going to Best Buy to pick up some RAM for my wife's computer. I am using her computer to sync my iPod and it gets bogged down doing that. I checked the box and found out that she only had like 256MB of RAM. It wasn't that long ago that that was a ton of RAM, but now if you are running XP you might as well be in slow motion walking through thick mud.

The Grove

For those of you in Northwest Arkansas, I will be leading worship in The Grove next Sunday night (June 5th). Wow, that sounds like self-promotion, but it isn't it's just that I am really excited to lead there again. It has been a long time...too long.

Kevin Rose's New Show

Kevin Rose has started a new show called Systm. He has some torrent files up so that you can download the first show. I haven't gotten the chance to see it yet, but it is very interesting the model he is using. Yesterday, he announced that he was leaving G4 to pursue a new model of television leveraging the internet as the distribution. I want to see if it works.

I know the future of television is somehow wrapped up in Internet distribution, but this may be a little premature. But, there is no better audience to test it out on than the tech crowd. This show may work. I hope he finds funding. It is about the stuff I want to hear about...I think. (I havn't seen it yet...)

Kevin Rose is Leaving G4

I know the vast majority of you who read this blog probably have no idea what or whom I am talking about, but for those of you who do, Keven Rose just posted on his blog that Friday May 27th is his last day on G4.

Over the past year, I have seen my favorite show disintegrate before my eyes. Kevin Rose used to be on a show called The Screensavers. It was the flagship show on the now defunct TechTV channel.

It took forever for our cable company here in NWA to get that station, so the only time I could watch the show was when I was at someone's house that had direcTV.

The Screensavers was a cool show because it talked about computers and other geeky stuff in a way that wasn't to overly geeky, but let's face it, I am a geek so what am I talking about?

About a year ago or so, G4 a video game channel based out of LA bought out TechTV and gutted it's lineup keeping just a few of the shows. Then, once the TechTV shows were on G4, the G4 management kept monkeying with the show until it was almost completely unrecognizable from what it was when it was in San Francisco.

The only reason I kept watching the show was there were two people from the original series whom I liked. Kevin Rose and Sarah Lane were on the original so I watched the show to hear from them. Well the big news today is that Kevin Rose is now leaving. I have said this before in my blog, but I believe we are coming perilously close to me not watching ever again.

The Silver Lining

The great news is that Kevin is leaving to start a new venture that sounds right up my ally. I mean I enjoy playing Halo and some other video games, but video games don't define my existence so G4 doesn't really appeal to me. Kevin is basically starting a new typ of network. He is leveraging the Internet and RSS to start a new type of network. One that talks about technology and the things I enjoyed about TechTV.

Again, if none of this makes sense to you, then this message isn't for you. Sorry.

Sad and excited,

iPodder

My latest obsession are podcasts. Podcasts are shows that people record and post on their blog. The podcasters take advantage CSS to alert people when new shows are available. There are programs that you as the listener download called ipodders. The ipodder goes out to each of the sites to see if there are new shows to download. If there are new shows the ipodder program downloads the show and then puts it in your iTunes library so that the podcast will we uploaded to your iPod the next time you sync it.

Adam Curry, one of the earliest VJ's on MTV, is one of the main people behind podcasting. You can download one of his shows at his website. NOTE: These shows are not covered by FCC regulations, so there is the occasional curse word here and there, but overall, it is pretty cool.

I Don't Have an iPod...

Even though it is handy to have the shows download automatically to a portable MP3 player, it isn't absolutely necessary. There are a number of people out there who listen to the shows on their computers.

I use a program called ipodder. It doesn't care if you have an iPod or another brand of MP3 player. If you have a player other than an Apple branded player, ipodder can upload the MP3 files into Windows Media Player. WMP can upload MP3s to all other brands.

Ipodder also has a large list of good Podcasts to check out. Podcasts, you need to check them out. If you get in now, you can still call yourself an early adopter.
